Should there be a limit on who can wear a swimsuit? Most would say “Absolutely not!”—except for my daughter-in-law, Janice, who thinks otherwise.

After a refreshing trip to Miami Beach with my husband, Donald, I felt rejuvenated and loved. One day, I wore a black two-piece, and Donald couldn’t stop complimenting me. A little girl even captured our sweet moment with a photo, which I later shared on Facebook.

But then came Janice’s hurtful comment: “Seriously? How can she even think of showing her WRINKLED body in a swimsuit?! She looks UGLY!” I was crushed.

Instead of letting it slide, I devised a plan. I suggested inviting everyone to a family barbecue. When Janice finally arrived, I took the opportunity to share the photo and express how it symbolized love that grows with age. I also revealed her unkind comment for all to see, emphasizing the importance of kindness and that we all age.

Afterward, Janice apologized, acknowledging her mistake. Facing ageism from family can be tough, but wrinkles and grey hairs are badges of a life well-lived.
